The first easy-to-use DIY Kintsugi kit to repair broken ceramics with gold (also available in silver) since 2009. Cherish the beauty of imperfection, inspired by the ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi, which means gold repair.
THE NEW KINTSUGI STORY
'New kintsugi' is a new way of gluing porcelain based on the old Kintsugi technique. The story goes that Kintsugi may have originated when the emperor sent his damaged Chinese pottery back to China for repairs in the late 15th century. When it came back repaired with metal staples, he instructed his craftsmen to come up with something more aesthetic; gold repair. This art became such a hype that some collectors began deliberately smashing valuable pottery so that it could be repaired with the gold seams of Kintsugi. With the 'New kintsugi Repair Kit', invented in 2009, we combine this beautiful old technique with new, easy-to-use technology. This way we encourage everyone to repair broken items instead of throwing them away. In fact, instead of focusing on the flaws, the gold seams emphasize the cracks, celebrating the beauty of imperfection. By repairing an object the product becomes unique and personal.
